Having read Coastal Gardens and Drift Planting, you may wonder what type of plants to use: here are some suggestions.
Creating plant communities for coastal gardens is an exciting and challenging thing to do. Whilst there are the obvious problems of wind and salt tolerence to contend with, there is also a wonderful palette of plants to draw from which will thrive in these mild conditions - many of which would not survive inland where they might be subjected to hard frosts. We can break these plants down into their main catagories as follows:

- ground cover and crevis plants
Whilst this article can only be a general introduction to these plants, lets look more closely at some species in each group. Please note that this list is not exclusive! Plants marked with(*) are good for first line of defence

Tamarix
