timber outdoor room

This garden design utilised the dead space on the North side of the house.

By building a deck surrounded by raised beds the area has become a vibrant, lived-in space.

It is used frequently for breakfast, lunch and evening meals.

The entrance to the area from the house is an easy step out from the conservatory.

The deck is part shaded by a pergola and bamboo screen, to reduce bright sunlight (even being on the North side!).

The raised beds bring plants up to sitting level, ideal for aromatic plants such as prostrate rosemary.

The deck area is quite large and the raised beds are the right height to sit on - ideal for entertaining.

A bubble pool lends a cool and tranquil air to the area.

Bold foliage surrounds the area as backdrop - mainly grasses and bamboos.

This old railway bench sits near the deck garden and looks out onto an informal pool of cool green.

This door, built by a local craftsman, leads away into the adjacent woods, giving a sense of mystery...
