pond, deck-walk and courtyard

This pond was designed as the focal point of the garden, with oak walkways leading to a decked seating area that overhangs the pond.

By having to cross the water to reach the deck, an experience of transition into another, unique, space is effected. Wildlife is abundant in this pond!

The deck-walk leads over the pond to the deck and on again to the far side.

This narrow water channel between pond edge and islet is densely planted with marginals and emergent plants, adding depth and mystery to the pond.

A Gunnera grows in boggy soil in a soil bay retained by log edgings within the pond liner. This is a two year old plant, yet to attain its full stature.

Adjacent to the house is a small courtyard area, which leads off from the kitchen. A pergola provides a transition from the wider garden.

Dwarf box hedging lines the stepped deck edge, with planting of cool evergreens that provide splashes of vibrant flower colour.

With easy access from the kitchen, this is a good spot for breakfast.
